Dental Anxiety and Fear

It’s very common and completely normal for patients to deal with anxiety surrounding dentist visits. At Langley Dental, we are committed to easing your fears and making your experience as comfortable as possible.

It’s important for patients to understand that advancements in dental technologies have made visiting the dentist easy and comfortable. The Langley Dental team is professional, composed, and will do everything in their power to ensure you are relaxed and well-educated about the services you will be receiving.

Tips for Overcoming Dental Anxiety and Fear

  • Share your concerns with your dentist. We can walk through your procedure step by step so you know what’s coming. We have extensive experience dealing with dental anxiety – there’s nothing to be embarrassed about, and we can help.

  • Bring headphones and listen to calming music during your appointment.

  • Inquire about anti-anxiety medications that you may be able to receive prior to your exam or procedure.

  • If you are afraid of gagging, use a throat spray to help control your reflexes and give you peace of mind.

  • Consider sedation. We offer a number of sedation options that can help you feel calm during your visit.

Sedation

Sedation can be incredibly helpful for patients dealing with dental anxiety, and it’s also necessary for certain procedures. Whether you are considering sedation to feel calm, or you’re concerned about being sedated, we are here to answer all of your questions.

About Our Sedation Services

There are different types and levels of sedation. At Langley Dental, we work with you to find the exact sedation option for your needs. We will make sure you understand each sedation method in detail before deciding on the one that is right for you.

Here are the sedation services that we offer:

  • Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) – Nitrous oxide is a gas that you breathe through your nose via an inhaler. Nitrous oxide simply helps you relax during your appointment, and it’s great for easing dental fear and anxiety. The effects of the sedation wear off quickly after your procedure, so you can go about your day as usual right away.

  • Oral Sedation – Oral sedation involves taking sedative drugs. This method is also helpful for easing anxiety, however it will require the patient to have an adult accompany them to and from the appointment, including providing transportation.

For any questions or concerns involving sedation, please contact the Langley Dental office today. We would love to do anything we can to make your visit as comfortable as possible.
